The Chaparrals stepped outside for the first time this season and earned a split Saturday, defeating Joliet 10-9 and losing 4-3 to host Vincennes University as baseball
returned for the first time in nearly a year.

The Chaps and Vincennes’ Sunday game was rained out.
Coach Bobby Wilson’s team now prepares for a four-game series at St. Louis Community College, beginning Friday afternoon.

The Chaps overcame a 5-3 deficit with a three-run fourth, and then scored a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth.
Mike Wagner connected on a two-run homer in the third, and Seth Borden hit a solo homer in the second.
In the fourth, COD scored all three runs on just one hit, thanks to Zion Baker’s RBI-single that brought in Nick Fushi, who walked.

One inning later, Cam Bailey’s double to center scored Fushi, and two batters later, Baker’s line drive was mishandled in center and scored Bailey. Borden and Fushi each
drove in a run in the sixth.

Borden, Fushi and Baker all had two hits as COD finished with eight.
Nick Stacey struck out four in four innings.

The Chaps built a 3-0 lead through three innings, but the hosts came back with a three-run sixth and won in the ninth on a walkoff single.

RHP Mike Sullivan threw well, striking out eight in four innings.
The Chaps had just four hits — a double from Cliff Vickers, and singles from Wagner, Jack Oberli and Baker.
